Football fans rejoice — the NFL regular season is officially back. And with it, the chance for folks to witness the much-anticipated 2018 rookie class take the field for their first real action at the highest level. Let’s just say, these kids did not disappoint.
Expectations are high for these rookies, but it’s hard not to get excited about them. As a result, Vegas oddsmakers continue to adjust their odds for the favorites to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. As it currently stands, here is a look at the first-years at the head of the class.
Odds courtesy of BetOnline.ag as of September 13, 2018.
Josh Rosen, QB, Arizona Cardinals (+1400)
Sam Bradford continues to be the man under center for the Arizona Cardinals, but you better believe Rosen is chomping at the bits. The former UCLA standout was “pissed” that four quarterbacks were selected ahead of him in the 2018 draft. He’s ready to show NFL teams just how dumb they were for passing on him.

Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills (+900)
Josh Allen wasn’t the Bills’ Week 1 starter against the Baltimore Ravens. But after Nathan Peterman threw two interceptions in a 47-3 drubbing, head coach Sean McDermott decided the time was right to hand the reigns over to the former Wyoming product. The young gunslinger’s official Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign kicks off against the Chargers in Week 2.

Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants (+250)
The New York Giants could’ve opted for a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft, but instead went with arguably the best player in the entire class in running back Saquon Barkley. It’s hard to argue with that decision after watching the former Nittany Lion gash the Jacksonville Jaguars defense for 106 yards on the ground (on 18 carries), including a ridiculous 68-yard rushing TD. No matter what happens, we feel comfortable in saying Saquon will be special.
Sam Darnold, QB, New York Jets (-110)
Sam Darnold threw a pick-six on his first career attempt. He then went on to throw for 198 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-17 victory over the Detroit Lions. We can’t remember the last rookie QB with that sort of mental fortitude. It’s just one game, and we expect Darnold will have his fair share of ups and downs, but damn if that’s not an impressive start to his career. The Jets may have finally found their franchise quarterback.
