The Telangana Assembly had last year passed the Telangana Gaming (Amendment) Bill, as part of which all games (including games of skill) that involve money were included under the ambit of gambling and made cognizable and non-bailable offences. This means betting is banned in the State. However, recently, the Hyderabad Task Force busted an IPL cricket betting racket which was operating via online betting sites.

Earlier, they manually entered each detail of the punter, ball, match, win and loss. Now, the software is installed in their laptops and they manage the accounts and rest on Microsoft Excel sheets,” a Task Force official said.
From what used to be the job of the local police and the Task Force, things are moving in such a way that the Cybercrime wing too might have to join the battle against cricket and online betting, he adds.
