I’ve been tracking the developments of Westeros as long as anyone, and this entire time, I’ve tried to do so with an eye on the entertainment betting scene.
While no grand revelations in the way of “Game of Thrones death odds” or “who will sit last on the Iron Throne” have been revealed, we are admittedly one step closer to the end of itall.
Now two episodes in, no major death has gone down, and it’s foggier than ever as to who will rule the Seven Kingdoms when the dust settles.
The air has been cleared on numerous matters, though. If you came here without being fully caught up on Game of Thrones through episode two of season eight, though, I’d click away now.
Shield your eyes, for spoilers will follow.
There really isn’t anything too groundbreaking, though. Arya Stark learned that Gendry might have a claim to the throne (we knew that already), and Jon Snow revealed to Daenerys that he’s aTargaryen.
We didn’t get into specifics there, but we knew this already, too. But it means that Daenerys is his aunt (ew) and that he’s technically the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. This couldcomplicate matters, assuming Jon Snow even wants to rule (he’s said before he doesn’t).
But there are bigger dragons to fry. Or, well, white walkers.
The Night King and his evil band of undead soldiers have pulled up on Winterfell in a dark, cold night. An epic battle is set to ensue, and if there is an episode where you’ll want to hit up yourfavorite Game of Thronesbetting sites, episode three is it.
Our favorite GoT characters gathered together the night before the coming battle, setting up a goodbye of sorts for virtually anyone. We just don’t know who yet.

As with most things in the world, some sportsbooks have odds on who will be ruler of the Seven Kingdoms at the end of the show. I covered odds before Game of Thrones’ Season 8 began, and those odds have seen some significant motion after two episodes.
Here’s what we’ve seen so far during the first two episodes that we had to wait entirely wayyyy too long for.
We catch up with everyone after it feels like five years since we last saw them together. Crowds line up as Jon Snow, Daenarys Targaryen and an army of dragons, Unsullied, Dothraki and more cruise into Winterfell to make their stand against the White Walkers.
Sansa Stark is a bit miffed at the whole thing and a queen she doesn’t want to answer to.
Euron Greyjoy continues to be his not-so-charming, overly arrogant self toward Cersei Lannister, who he intends to one-day wed and make babies with. The two end up hooking up and making the most Westeros pillow-talk imaginable afterwards.
Jon rides on a dragon, not knowing exactly how to in the process. Somehow he doesn’t die; because that would have been a perfect Game of Thrones type fatality. Go out for a cool ride on a dragon and never come back home…
… speaking of Jon, his good buddy Samwell arrives at Winterfell. He and Jon visit, Samwell drops the whole you’re not a bastard, you’re a Targaryen and the rightful heir to the throne on Jon. Those internet theories were right all along. Shocker.

And the Knight King and his army are south of the wall now. Headed toward Winterfell. Never saw that coming, did you?
Mostly another set-up episode, as the White Walkers make their way toward Winterfell, where the Starks, Targaryens, A Hound, a pair of dragons, a pair of Lannister brothers and many more have decided to draw their line in the frozen tundra and battle the walking dead. Lots of side banter, hanging around fires, chatting and trying to tie up some loose ends from the previous seven GoT seasons. But it was all done well, with solid one-liners and campfire drinking.
Bran Stark, aka the Three-eyed Raven, tells everyone that The Knight King has him marked and is coming for him, because his death would basically wipe out the history of man. Again, lots of theories out there that Bran and The Knight King are, actually, one in the same…
Jamie Lannister arrived, let everyone know that Cersei – surprise, surprise – lied to them, but he wanted to fight for mankind. He then asked Brienne of Tarth if he could fight under her leadership, before later making her a Knight. I wonder what the odds were of ever getting Brienne to smile before that happened?
And there was that whole thing where Jon Snow tells Daenerys Targaryen that he’s actually a Targaryen (her nephew, too) because his brother, who would really be his cousin, has visions and his best friend read about it in some old book but didn’t really know what he was reading about at the time. Oh, how love is complicated at times.

Apparently Sansa’s showing in the first two eps has increased the view that she’s going to be ruling when all is said and done. She’s definitely grown as a character from the early seasons and has shown her chops with getting people to rally behind and support her. However, her odds (7/4) and those of her brother Bran (5/2) aren’t worth the investment in my opinion… and if everyone thinks one of those two are going to end up leading the Seven Kingdoms, you know darn well the show will be ready with an alternative ending to get you in the end … although there’s still thought that if Bran and The Night King are one in the same, sportsbooks may pay-out on both regardless of actually winner and I still like the 10/1 investment on old frosty.
Gendry saw his odds change, going from 7/1 to 4/1, after he revealed he’s the bastard son of former King Robert. He and Arya, whose odds also increased five spots, hooked up. Is that our new ruling pair?
Daenerys’ stock increased in potential return, going from 10/1 to 12/1; I’m giving the same look she gave Jon when she said he’d be the last male Targaryen if the stories he told her were true. She’s mowed over, set fire and destroyed everyone else in her way to the Iron Throne. Could her new love interest, and, ummm, nephew, be next on the list? Doubtful, but this is Game of Thrones and she really wants to be the ruler…
Samwell Tarly’s odds changed pretty drastically, decreasing from a healthy 25/1 to 14/1. I still think there’s a sprinkle of ROI on throwing some money on him.

In previous filings, I noted that one can never rule out Cersei Lannister. She didn’t go north, has a whole lot of paid-for soldiers now under her command, most of the Iron Fleet and is always one step ahead most others when it comes to back-stabbing her way to power. If you weren’t interested in throwing some money at her previous 16/1 odds, it is hard to ignore a 40/1 payout.
